CEFIC IS LOOKING FOR A COMMUNICATION MANAGER FOR ITS PUBLIC AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT,

Mission of the role

Leading the Communcations activities for the Petrochemicals Europe industry sector and contributing tribute to Cefic’s wider Green Deal advocacy communications agenda, including our Digital Public Affairs programmes.

The successful candidate will play an instrumental role in Cefic’s newly enhanced public affairs unit, working closely with other communications team members responsible for press office, digital communications and events. They will also work closely with the advocacy teams working with the EU institutions to ensure Cefic remains well connected to relevant areas of the growing EU policy agenda.

A major content focus of this role will be to drive the external and internal communications strategy for one of Cefic’s largest sector groups, Petrochemicals Europe, as it guides its member companies through the implementation of the EU Green Deal. The role will therefore provide opportunities to develop a deep understanding of key topics within the EU Green Deal including energy and climate, environmental, health and safety, chemicals, digital and wider industrial policies as well as the regulatory environment concerning implementation of chemicals legislation.

You will:

  • Drive the internal & external communication strategy, support the Executive Director and sector groups in designing and implementing communications, applying the latest digital communications tools.
  • Manage development of all official Petrochemicals Europe and related sector group publications, such as press releases, op-eds, website texts, digital brochures, newsletters, etc.
  • Develop, coordinate and (co-)write high quality media outputs, including press releases, op-eds, speaking points and briefing notes.
  • Collaborate closely with other communications and advocacy colleagues to ensure coordination of media relations with other public affairs initiatives.
  • Professionalize all Petrochemicals Europe’s digital communications and take the impact of this work to the next level.
  • Coach and deliver through others where appropriate, acting as a focal point for assistants.
  • Lead projects, events and initiatives and prepare engagements through conferences and webinars.
  • Support industry working committees when required.
  • Lead close monitoring of the media landscape, analytics and overall management of Petrochemicals Europe’s communication database.

Can you make the difference?

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following experience, competencies and personal qualities:

  • University degree in journalism, communications, political sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience of executing/leading communications campaigns including digital communications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to understand complex policy and scientific issues and to articulate them in a simple, catchy way including using storytelling, case studies, illustrations, infographics and social media.
  • Full professional proficiency in English (written and oral) additional European languages are an asset.
  • Cooperative approach and teamworking spirit; advanced social skills, energy and drive.
  • Good understanding of EU procedures and institutional framework – prior experience in Parliament, Council, Commission or public affairs role would be a definite asset.
  • Ability to synthesize and translate complex, technical issues into clear and concise messages.
  • Fully proficient using MS office and good understanding of social media channels.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail; and proofreading skills.
  • A curious personality, keen to learn and improve continuously.

Product Stewardship Manager

TO REINFORCE THE SUSTAINABLE CHEMICALS TEAM WITHIN THE PRODUCT STEWARDSHIP DEPARTMENT, CEFIC IS LOOKING FOR A (M/F/D)

Mission of the role

To coordinate the chemical industry response to the ongoing EU policy actions on sustainable products within the scope of the Sustainable Product Initiative (SPI), which is one of the measures highlighted in the in the EU Circular Economy Action Plan and in the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability to achieve ‘non-toxic material cycles’. The key product stewardship component of this initiative is the management of ‘substances of concern’ in products (coherence with chemicals policy, tracking and tracing, designing away, avoiding and replacing them where possible, transparency on chemical content, link to other sustainability initiatives, ecodesign, etc).

The successful candidate will organize and steer working groups of experts composed of a large group of member companies with diverse views that require convergence and decisions, to ensure alignment and effective positioning in the political and regulatory debate on issues in the Sustainable Products scope. Interaction with regulators and liaison with downstream industries as well as with the recycling/waste management community are also two components of this position.

You will:

  • Drive the development and delivery of position papers and actions on the above, and advocate them; coordinate the chemical industry input in public consultations and surveys
  • Create an effective working relationship with regulators and the EU institutions; represent Cefic in the discussions with regulators and external stakeholders
  • Liaise with other relevant industry associations and stakeholders and engage in a constructive dialogue, coordinated joint actions whenever necessary
  • Represent Cefic and the European Chemical industry in Expert working groups and in relevant conferences and workshops
  • Coordinate activities with Cefic public affairs and work closely with other colleagues, particularly with Cefic sector groups, to ensure consistency with the wider activities of Cefic, e.g. circular economy and innovation
  • Contribute to and leverage related activities handled by other Cefic teams or departments (safe and sustainable by design, circular economy action plan policies, chemical recycling, substances in articles under REACH, substitution, etc.)
  • Manage a fully functioning Issue Team on Sustainable Products, including the drafting of an advocacy plan and a communications plan for all issues falling under the Remit of the Sustainable Product Issue Team
  • Position Cefic as a recognised and constructive stakeholder in the Sustainable Products Initiative (SPI) discussions and coordinate advocacy on SPI with other industry associations

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience, competencies, and personal qualities:

  • A master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, environmental sciences, or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in EU chemicals policies, including experience in industry associations and/or EU institutions
  • Knowledge of chemicals policy (REACH in particular) and/or experience with Ecodesign is preferred
  • Proven ability to drive consensus among different parties representing a variety of interests
  • Ability to drive actions forward with a results-oriented approach while adapting to a fast and dynamic regulatory/policy environment.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to speak clearly and concisely in front of a group as well as the ability to translate complex technological concepts into layman language.
  • Proficiency in English (written and oral), additional European languages are a definite asset.

FOR ITS HALOGENS INDUSTRY SECTOR, CEFIC IS LOOKING FOR A FULL TIME (M/F/D).

Mission of the role

To perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks to support the ESA (European Sulfuric Acid Association), EUROFLUOR and FPP4EU (FluoroProducts and PFAS for Europe) Sector Group managers.

Are you inspired by these responsibilities?

You will:

  • Provide support for the organisation of international meetings (currently virtual meetings, but in the future also physical – and abroad):
  • draft agendas, invitations, registration forms, and send out their final version together with any supporting document to members,
  • for virtual meetings: organise web-meetings (MS Teams as main tool) and support the managers before, during and after the web-meeting, to ensure its smooth execution and follow-up,
  • for physical meetings: organise travel & social events, follow up on the logistics before, during and after the meeting, provide on-site assistance when required, particularly for the ESA General Assembly (twice per year).
  • Assist in financial follow-up, assist in preparing and distributing invoices to the membership.
  • Maintain internal and external databases to ensure good communication towards the members.
  • Archive documents and minutes according to Cefic internal procedures.
  • Support the manager in maintaining and updating the SG websites.
  • Actively contribute to the activities of the Halogens Industry Sector.

  • A bachelor’s degree in Office Management or similar.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience as a management assistant or a similar role, experience within a member association is an asset.

MISSION ON THE ROLE

Reporting to the Executive Director Petrochemicals Europe, you will manage the Sustainable Fuels Sector Group to implement the groups policy and strategic objectives.  You will coordinate the sector group activities and drive progress in developing and implementing new initiatives in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

  • Expand the potential outlet and use of Sustainable Fuels across EMEA, Eastern Europe and articulate strategies and plans across growing demand regions.

  • Establish, maintain and extend the network of relationships and alliances with various industrial players and downstream users.
  • Monitor, analyse and interpret the existing and proposed policies & government legislation and its impact on member company activities.

  • Establish and maintain a network of relationships, stakeholders and alliances with other relevant European stakeholders, media, NGO’s and other trade associations in EU, ME and Africa.

  • Monitor and identify relevant (emerging) policy issues legislation on EU and member state level.

CAN YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE?

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional who demonstrates the following experience, competencies, and personal qualities:

  • A master’s degree in political sciences, international relations or related disciplines and/or in science, chemistry or related disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge and background in fuels, refineries, gasoline streams and marketing, markets and European politics and institutions.
  • Fuels experience in Africa would be highly welcomed.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in an international working environment. Experience within the chemical industry or another European association is an asset.
  • Proven experience in international advocacy and engagement with the EU regulatory framework.
  • Experience within the fuel industry and in EU association management would be a plus.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of chemical-related regulatory matters, the chemical industry and the value chain is desirable.
  • Full professional proficiency in English; additional languages are a definite asset.
