Description

The Department of Organization at Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant Ph.D. scholarship within the field of STS and organization studies. The scholarship is part of the collaborative research project “Isomorphic differences: familiarity and distinctiveness in national science and innovation policies” funded by Independent Research Fund Denmark (project description available upon request). The scholarship has a special focus on current US science and innovation policy, organizational initiatives and patterns of implementation. They are interested in PhD projects that: study this topic from a sociology of science and technology (STS) or organization studies perspective; conduct comparative analysis of policy documents, institutional structures and initiatives, policy statements and the views of key actors; investigate a selected “big science” collaboration in the US; help explore the similarities and differences between US science and innovation policy and those of China and Denmark. The scholarship requires the candidate to conduct empirical fieldwork in the US, but also willing to stay for the main part of the scholarship in the Copenhagen area.
Department of Organization (IOA) pursues a problem-oriented, business in society approach to understanding and intervening in organizations and institutions. Our research is driven by an interest in the organization as a practical, situated, contested and changing matter. The approach is interdisciplinary and combines social-scientific traditions such as organization theory, sociology, science and technology studies, political economy, and social psychology in the analysis of organizing processes and their outcomes.
The teaching responsibilities associated with the scholarship comprise undergraduate teaching and supervision in subjects such as organization theory, organizational analysis, and qualitative methodology.
The Department will give priority to applicants with high grades from their universities.
The three-year Ph.D. programme at CBS allows candidates to conduct research under the supervision of CBS professors, supported by research training courses. The programme is highly international, and you are expected to participate in international research conferences and to spend time abroad as a visiting Ph.D. student.
