ABOUT THE GEORGE WASHINGTON CARVER\u00a0INTERNSHIP PROGRAM<\/h3>\n

The World Food Prize Foundation’s George Washington Carver Internship is an unparalleled professional opportunity for students interested in global issues of hunger, poverty, and development.<\/p>\n

George Washington Carver (GWC) Interns learn first-hand both the public and private side of operating an international non-profit organization and increase their understanding of the international fight against hunger, malnutrition, and poverty.<\/p>\n

Working one-on-one with a staff mentor, GWC Interns become an integral part of this internationally renowned organization and interact with World Food Prize Laureates, government officials, international experts in science and agriculture, leaders in industry and business, and members of local and national media. GWC Interns come from a variety of academic disciplines and internship roles will be specialized according to an individual\u2019s background, skills, and area of interest.<\/p>\n

Interns can work on-site in Des Moines, Iowa, or remotely and\u00a0are compensated with a stipend of $1,500 per internship period. World Food Prize Foundation accepts interns for the Spring, Summer or Fall period and is\u00a0currently accepting for the Spring. Applications accepted on a rolling basis, preferred deadline December 16th.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each academic semester and summer, a select group of highly qualified undergraduate and graduate students is chosen for this unique program, which provides interns with the opportunity to take significant responsibility and initiative in planning and carrying out a wide range of the Foundation\u2019s projects in the following areas:\u200b\u200b\u200b\u200b<\/p>\n

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\u00a0& ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES<\/h3>\n

Successful candidates have: a strong academic background, a solid work ethic, a capacity for analytical thinking, impeccable attention to detail and excellent oral and written communication skills. They are enthusiastic and flexible learners, capable of both taking direction and working independently. Applicants must be proficient in English to be considered for placement.\u00a0All selected interns share a commitment to fulfilling The World Food Prize Foundation\u2019s mission of\u00a0elevating innovation\u00a0and inspiring action to increase\u00a0the quality, quantity, and availability of food for all.<\/p>\n

While a minimum commitment of 12-15 hours per week in the hours between 9-5 pm Monday through Friday\u00a0is required for the Spring and Fall and 16-20 hours per week in the Summer, the program provides flexibility for each intern\u2019s schedule, and many interns choose to work additional hours.<\/p>\n

Interns are given a stipend and\u00a0may be eligible for course credit. A cover letter and\u00a0resume are necessary to apply; and\u00a0a\u00a0sample of work is necessary if applying for graphic design but welcome for other positions.<\/p>\n
