{"id":72735,"date":"2021-06-06T10:00:28","date_gmt":"2021-06-06T10:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/?p=72735"},"modified":"2021-06-06T10:00:28","modified_gmt":"2021-06-06T10:00:28","slug":"call-for-applications-and-nominations-for-the-2021-edition-of-unesco-international-literacy-prizes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/index.php\/2021\/06\/06\/call-for-applications-and-nominations-for-the-2021-edition-of-unesco-international-literacy-prizes\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for applications and nominations for the 2021 edition of UNESCO International Literacy Prizes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-72736\" src=\"http:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/blank-white-page-1-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/blank-white-page-1-9.jpg 900w, https:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/blank-white-page-1-9-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/blank-white-page-1-9-768x543.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 id=\"page-title\">Application and nomination process for the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes<\/h1>\n<div class=\"region region-content\">\n<section id=\"block-system-main\" class=\"block block-system clearfix\">\n<article id=\"node-271333\" class=\"node node-page clearfix\">\n<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p>Applicants will be asked to make submissions related to the 2021\u00a0theme &#8220;Inclusive distance and digital literacy learning&#8221; and take into consideration the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.unesco.org\/themes\/literacy\/prizes\/\">specific focuses of the two prizes<\/a>\u00a0when applying.<\/p>\n<p>Member States and International Non-Governmental Organizations which maintain official relations with UNESCO are invited to solicit and submit nominations for the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/sites\/default\/files\/unesco-literacy-prizes-application-and-nomination-process.pdf\">application process<\/a>\u00a0consists of two stages, an application and a nomination.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n<h3>Who is eligible to apply?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Institutions, organizations and individuals promoting literacy through effective and innovative projects or programmes.<\/li>\n<li>Eligible programmes or projects who have a proven record of innovative work in the field of literacy for at least three years.<\/li>\n<li>Programmes\/projects that have not been awarded the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes in the past five years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How to submit the applications and nominations \u2013 two stages<\/h3>\n<p>The first stage is for an applicant to fill in and submit an application form through either a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pax.unesco.org\/countries\/NationalCommissions.html\">National Commission for UNESCO<\/a>\u00a0or an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/sites\/default\/files\/list_ngos_official_partners_unesco.pdf\">International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) maintaining official relations with UNESCO<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The second stage is for the concerned National Commission or international NGO to review and nominate the successful candidatures to the Secretariat of the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes.<\/p>\n<h3>For applicants \u2013 Application<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>To begin with, the applicant needs to request the access to the online form through this link:\u00a0<a title=\"http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/ilp\/account\" href=\"http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/ilp\/account\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/ilp\/account<\/a>, and specify in particular the submission channel (either a government via the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pax.unesco.org\/countries\/NationalCommissions.html\">National Commission for UNESCO<\/a>, or an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.unesco.org\/sites\/default\/files\/list_ngos_official_partners_unesco.pdf\">International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) maintaining official relations with UNESCO<\/a>). Once your access is granted by the Secretariat, the applicant will receive an automatic notification to the email address indicated*.<\/li>\n<li>The applicant needs to complete the online form (in English or in French). The applicant can attach relevant supporting materials (e.g. reports, publications) of less than 100 pages in total.<\/li>\n<li>The applicant who opts for the government channel will then send the submission form with supporting materials to the appropriate National Commission (by selecting \u2018YES\u2019 under \u2018Submit the application to a National Commission and clicking on \u201cSave\u201d at the bottom)<strong>\u00a0by 13 June 2021<\/strong>\u00a0(midnight, Paris time).<\/li>\n<li>The applicant who opts to apply through an international NGO maintaining official relations with UNESCO, needs to obtain a nomination letter from the NGO in question that recommends them for the Prizes. This nomination letter must be attached to the submission form by the applicant.<\/li>\n<li>For this purpose, please identify an International NGO in official relations with UNESCO which is active in the related fields, notably literacy and send your application with supporting documents to that NGO. The applicant should then submit the electronic application form with the written nomination letter and supporting materials to UNESCO (by selecting \u2018YES\u2019 under \u2018Submit the nomination to UNESCO (via NGO)\u201d and clicking on \u201cSave\u201d at the bottom)\u00a0<strong>by\u00a027 June 2021\u00a0<\/strong>(midnight, Paris time).<\/li>\n<li>If applicants have difficulties reaching an appropriate nominating entity, they should contact the Secretariat of the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes for further guidance.<\/li>\n<li>Please note that self-nominations will not be taken into consideration, and that any submission form missing a written recommendation issued by a Government of a Member State through the National Commission for UNESCO (directly in the form), or an International NGO which maintains official relations with UNESCO (a nomination letter in attachment), will not be accepted by the Secretariat of the UNESCO International Literacy Prizes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>For Governments (National Commissions for UNESCO) and International NGOs \u2013 Nominations<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>The relevant\u00a0<strong>National Commission<\/strong>\u00a0will receive a notification every time an application form is submitted to them for their nomination. The notification will contain a link to the online form, which will be accessible through the e-mail address associated with its generic UNESCO account.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>To access the nomination form, the National Commission should:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li>Follow the link provided to the application.<\/li>\n<li>On the login page, enter the username (in this format\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:natcom.yourcountryname@natcom.unesco.org\" data-extlink=\"\">natcom.yourcountryname@natcom.unesco.org<span class=\"mailto\"><span class=\"element-invisible\">(link sends e-mail)<\/span><\/span><\/a>) (For example, the username for the National Commission of China is\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:natcom.china@natcom.unesco.org\" data-extlink=\"\">natcom.china@natcom.unesco.org<span class=\"mailto\"><span class=\"element-invisible\">(link sends e-mail)<\/span><\/span><\/a>); and<\/li>\n<li>Enter the password associated with the UNESCO account of the National Commission.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>The National Commission reviews the forms received and nominates up to three submissions for the UNESCO Confucius Prize for Literacy, and up to two submissions for the UNESCO King Sejong Literacy Prize.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>To nominate a candidate, the National Commission should edit the form by entering a written recommendation in the appropriate fields, in English or French, and cover the following:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A description of the nominee\u2019s background and achievements;<\/li>\n<li>A summary of the work or the results of the work, publications and other supporting documents of major importance, submitted for consideration;<\/li>\n<li>A succinct evaluation of the nominee\u2019s contribution to the Prize\u2019s objectives.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It should then select \u2018YES\u2019 under \u2018Submit a nomination to UNESCO\u2019 and click on the button \u2018Save\u2019 at the bottom of page.
