The <\/strong>Arab Fund for Art and Culture (AFAC) <\/strong><\/a>and the Prince Claus Fund, in partnership with <\/strong>Magnum Foundation<\/strong><\/a>, are now accepting proposals for the seventh cycle of the Arab Documentary Photography Programme (ADPP).<\/strong>
\nThe
\n ADPP supports documentary photographers in the Arab region in creating
\nunconventional, compelling, non-stereotypical visual documentation of
\nsocial issues and narratives relevant to the Arab region. Applicants
\nwhose proposals are selected receive a production grant, two intensive
\nworkshops and mentoring by an established international photographer.
\nOver
\n a period of eight months the programme not only helps participants
\ndevelop their project, it also looks for ways in which their work can
\nreach out to wider audiences, to engage, inform and open minds.
\nIn
\n past years, ADPP has proven to be a major springboard to international
\nrecognition for emerging Arab photographers, opening the way for other
\ngrants and awards, like the Tim Heatherington Prize, the Joop Swart
\nMasterclass of World Press Photo, Magnum Foundation Fellowship for
\nphotography and Social Justice, the Canon Education Program,
\nCIC\/Phototopia and publication in, among others, the Washington Post,
\nthe New York Times, National Geographic, El Pais Semanal, Zeit Magazine
\nand Gulf Business.
\nPhotographers may propose to work in a range of
\n non-fiction narrative styles, from classic documentary photography to
\nmore experimental visual storytelling, and may propose to include audio
\nand video elements. The programme is open to Arab applicants living and
\nworking in the Arab region, irrespective of age, years of experience,
\nethnicity, gender or religion. Exceptions are made for Arab applicants
\nwho had to flee their home countries during the past eight years (since
\n2012) due to political unrest. Their projects must however be related to
\n the region. Technical familiarity with photography is required.
