{"id":63824,"date":"2020-02-21T19:03:00","date_gmt":"2020-02-21T19:03:00","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2020-09-28T21:01:04","modified_gmt":"2020-09-28T21:01:04","slug":"canon-collins-thekgo-debt-relief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/index.php\/2020\/02\/21\/canon-collins-thekgo-debt-relief\/","title":{"rendered":"Canon Collins Thekgo Debt Relief Scholarship 2020 for African Students (up to R20,000)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;\" class=\"sharethis-inline-share-buttons\" ><\/div><div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" data-original-height=\"350\" data-original-width=\"563\" height=\"396\" src=\"http:\/\/rubyskynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/scholarship.jpg\" width=\"640\" \/><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;In 2019, in response to the new funding of Higher Education by the<br \/>\nSouth African government, the Canon Collins Thekgo Bursary has been<br \/>\nrestructured from providing registration fee for first year students to<br \/>\nproviding bursaries that alleviate undergraduate students\u2019 debt.<br \/>\nStudents who have completed their undergraduate\/Honours studies, but<br \/>\ntheir degree certificates\/academic records have been withheld due to<br \/>\noutstanding debt owed to the university, can apply for debt relief of up<br \/>\n to R20,000 in the following disciplines:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Languages and Literature<\/li>\n<li>Media Studies<\/li>\n<li>Gender Studies<\/li>\n<li>Education<\/li>\n<li>Arts (Digital Arts, Drama\/Performance Studies, Visual Arts\/Fine Arts, History of Art, Film and Television Studies, Music)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In<br \/>\n 2020 these bursaries will be awarded to completed undergraduate<br \/>\nstudents who have already missed at least one graduation and\/or were&nbsp;<span style=\"background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Karla, &quot;Century Gothic&quot;, CenturyGothic, AppleGothic, sans-serif; font-size: 14.6667px;\">not able to receive the degree<\/span>&nbsp; certificate due to outstanding debt of up to R20,000 with any public university in South Africa.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"sub-heading\">\nAre you eligible?<\/h3>\n<p>You must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">be a national of, or have refugee status in any African country.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>have<br \/>\n completed undergraduate studies (three year or four year Bachelor or<br \/>\nHonours degree) in a degree programme within Thekgo\u2019s focus disciplines<br \/>\nin the Humanities, listed above, at any public university in South<br \/>\nAfrica.<\/li>\n<li>have missed one graduation already and\/or was not able<br \/>\nto receive the degree due to outstanding debt not exceeding R20,000 owed<br \/>\n to the university<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">demonstrate academic merit<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">demonstrate financial need<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"sub-heading\">\nWhat we offer<\/h3>\n<p>We<br \/>\n usually dispense about 5-7 bursaries per year&nbsp;depending on the number<br \/>\nof applicants. The selection committee decides on the actual amount&nbsp;that<br \/>\n will be awarded to individual successful&nbsp;applicants.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"sub-heading\">\nHow to apply<\/h3>\n<p>This bursary is now open for applications.&nbsp;Download the <span class=\"file\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canoncollins.org.uk\/sites\/canoncollins.org.uk\/files\/new_thekgo_bursary_application_form_2020_distributed.pdf\" type=\"application\/pdf; length=96195\">application form<\/a><\/span>, save a copy on your computer, and fill it in. You must return the form to the Canon Collins office by email to <strong><a href=\"mailto:thekgo@canoncollins.org.uk\">thekgo@canoncollins.org.uk<\/a><\/strong> along with your supporting documents.
