The successful candidate can begin his or her fellowship in January 2021 at the earliest. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"csc-firstHeader\"><\/h2>\n<h2 class=\"csc-firstHeader\">Call for Applications 2021<\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The <i>Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research. Member of the Leibniz Association<\/i> <i>(GEI)<\/i> is pleased to announce the <b>Call for Applications for the 2021 Georg Arnhold Senior Fellow for Education for Sustainable Peace<\/b>.  The appointment, for the fellowship including a research stay of up to  six months at the GEI, offers outstanding scholars and experienced  practitioners in the field of peace education the opportunity to carry  out work in the area of education for sustainable peace, preferably with  a focus on educational media and transformation societies, and to  discuss their project and findings with other scholars and practitioners  at the annual international Summer Conference of the Georg Arnhold  Program.<\/span><br \/><span lang=\"EN-US\">The fellowship aims to promote education for  sustainable peace with a particular focus on educational media and  curricula at secondary school level in post-conflict or transitional  societies. Its principal objectives are to bridge the gap between theory  and practice, to foster international scholarly exchange as well as to  translate research findings into practical recommendations for those  active in conflict resolution, thereby contributing to civil society  capacity building. The output from the fellowship holder\u2019s work should  therefore preferably be policy papers, educational materials, research  papers, or a larger publication.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Fellowship is endowed with <\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">A  monthly stipend of up to 3,300 EUR for a fellowship period of up to six  months, to include a longer stay (of one to six months) at the Georg  Eckert Institute in Braunschweig, Germany <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Return economy airfare to Germany <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Administrative  support provided by the program coordinators (including English  language editing of publications published during, and as a result of,  the fellowship).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-US\">Eligibility <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Distinguished scholars from the humanities,  political and social sciences, education sciences or law who hold a  Ph.D. and have excellent knowledge of English may apply. Applicants must  demonstrate outstanding academic or professional achievements in their  field and ideally combine scholarly excellence and contact with hands-on  practice and grassroots work.<\/span><br \/><span lang=\"EN-US\">Individuals with extensive, high-level  international experience in government or non-governmental organizations  or in international organizations, who have excellent knowledge of  English are also welcome to apply. The Georg Eckert Institute will  therefore also consider applications from practitioners who do not hold a  Ph.D. but who have at least five years of advanced professional  experience in the area of peace education and who can demonstrate that  their work and\/or research projects have made an exceptional impact in  the field of peace education. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-US\">Obligations of the Fellowship holder<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">The  Georg Arnhold Senior Fellow shall carry out work in the area of  education for sustainable peace, preferably with a focus on educational  media, curricula development and transformation societies. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">The  Fellowship holder shall discuss the project findings with other  scholars and practitioners at the annual international Summer Conference  of the Georg Arnhold Program.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">The Fellowship requires a longer stay (of one to six months) at the Georg Eckert institute. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">The  Georg Arnhold Senior Fellow shall give a presentation of her or his  project in a public lecture at the Georg Eckert Institute.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">The  findings\/outcomes of the fellow\u2019s project shall be published no later  than one year after the termination of the Fellowship. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Candidates  are responsible for obtaining a passport and any visa that might be  required as well as for arranging their own health insurance for the  duration of their stay in Germany.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-US\">Application documents <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The application must include: <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span lang=\"EN-US\">A cover letter<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The cover letter should provide evidence of the  quality of the candidate\u2019s scholarship and expertise; of the candidate\u2019s  high-level experience working in government or non-governmental  organizations or in international organizations (max. 2 pages).<\/span><br \/>In your application, you should also answer the question as to what  significance the Fellowship would have for your professional development  and in which ways it can possibly further to your work. In addition, we  would like to hear what your work as a fellow at the GEI could  contribute to the work of the institute and the Georg Arnhold Program. <\/p>\n<h3><span lang=\"EN-US\">A description of the research-\/book project<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The application documents should further contain a  description of the (research) project or book the candidate wishes to  work on. Candidates should clearly state the objectives of their  project\/research, outline the methodology and describe the significance  of their work for the field of education for sustainable peace as well  as the intended results of the project. The project description should  further contain a rough timetable for the duration of the research  fellowship as well as an elaborated dissemination strategy for the  results (max. 5 pages).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span lang=\"EN-US\">A CV and writing sample<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">Candidates should also submit a full curriculum  vitae, including a list of publications. If the majority of the  publications are not in English, the candidate should provide a  translation of the titles. The application documents should further  contain a sample of the applicant\u2019s current scholarly writing; this  could be a book chapter or an article (max. 2 samples no longer than 25  pages each). <\/span><br \/><span lang=\"EN-US\">Practitioners, who might not have a list of  academic publications, may submit a list of project\/program reports or  educational materials they have produced or have been part  of\/supervised. The list should clearly state the candidate\u2019s role in the  project\/program as well as their contribution to the production of the  publications\/materials. The application documents should further contain  a sample of the applicant\u2019s current work; this could be a  project\/program report or the outline of a previously conducted project  (max. 2 samples no longer than 25 pages each). <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span lang=\"EN-US\">The completed application form<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">To complete your application the documents shall  be supplemented by the completed application form. The form is to be  filled out, printed and signed before submitting it as a scanned PDF  document. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-US\">Submission of the application documents<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">All documents must be submitted in PDF format, as a single file, which should not exceed 9 MB. <b>The application must not be submitted as a zip-file or via a fileserver.<\/b> Submissions should be made electronically. <\/span><br \/><span lang=\"EN-US\">The file name should be \u201cGeorg Arnhold Senior Fellow 2021 \u2013 YOUR NAME\u201d.<\/span><br \/><span lang=\"EN-US\">Please send applications to arnhold@gei.de, using the subject line \u201cGeorg Arnhold Senior Fellow 2021 \u2013 YOUR NAME\u201d. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span lang=\"EN-US\">Application process and selection criteria<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The application process comprises three steps:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Review of applications by a GEI committee of Eckert Institute<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Evaluation of applications from shortlisted candidates by experts in the field of peace education<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span lang=\"EN-US\">Final selection by the program\u2019s academic advisory board.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\">The  principal criteria on which the committee will base their decision will  be the candidates\u2019 academic reputation, his or her experience as a  practitioner and the quality of the project envisaged for their  fellowship of the Georg Arnhold Program. In order to gain a clear idea  of the candidates\u2019 ability to disseminate, communicate and achieve the  objectives of their projects the selection committee will invite a  number of candidates to participate in an online interview at the annual  board meeting, which will take place in late spring 2020. At this  meeting the successful candidate will be selected.<\/span><br \/><span lang=\"EN-US\">Please note that the selection process will take  several months.
