OUP au sarcina de a  efectua anumite masuri operative de investigatii, inclusiv de a folosi  inregistrari audio si video, foto, filmari, s.a.in scopul descoperirii  indicilor infractiunilor si persoanelor care au savirsit-o. OUP are de  asemenea obligatia de a lua toate masurile necesare pentru prevenirea si  curmarea infractiunii. Daca sunt indici ai infractiunii OUP porneste  procesul de urmarire penala calauzindu-se de dispozitiile CPP, face  actiuni de urmarire penala pentru descoperirea ei, fixarea probelor care  confirma sau infirma savirsirea infractiunii.
