Funding is provided through IIASA\u00a0National Member Organizations.<\/p>\n<h3>PROGRAM AREAS<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Air Quality and Greenhouse Gases;<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Systems Analysis;<\/li>\n<li>Ecosystem Services and Management;<\/li>\n<li>Energy;<\/li>\n<li>Evolution and Ecology;<\/li>\n<li>Risk and Resilience;<\/li>\n<li>Transitions to New Technologies;<\/li>\n<li>Water;<\/li>\n<li>World Population.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>FLAGSHIP PROJECTS<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Arctic Futures Initiative;<\/li>\n<li>Tropical Futures Initiative;<\/li>\n<li>Water Futures and Solutions Initiative;<\/li>\n<li>Challenges and Opportunities of Economic Integration within European and Eurasian Space;<\/li>\n<li>Integrated Solutions for Water, Energy, and Land (ISWEL).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Eligibility<\/h1>\n<p>To be eligible for the program candidates should meet the following criteria:<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>you should have research experience corresponding to a level typical of a researcher about\u00a0<b>2 years prior to receiving a PhD<\/b>\u00a0or equivalent degree;<\/li>\n<li>a summer research proposal that clearly fits the interdisciplinary research agenda of a selected IIASA program; before starting your application we recommend to get in touch with\u00a0representatives\u00a0of the program(s) of your choice;<\/li>\n<li>ability to work independently as well as to interact with other scientists;<\/li>\n<li>fluency in English and the ability to communicate in a scientific environment; and<\/li>\n<li>applicants from all countries are welcome. However, IIASA gives priority to citizens or residents of countries in which IIASA has a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.ac.at\/web\/home\/about\/nationalmembers\/National-Member-Organizations.en.html\">National Member Organization (NMO);<\/a><\/li>\n<li>applicants must commit to staying for the entire program. Up to five days of leave may be approved by supervisors for participation in conferences and\/or for personal reasons;<\/li>\n<li>candidates already holding a PhD degree by application deadline are asked to consider applying to IIASA\u2019s\u00a0postdoc program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>BENEFITS<\/h1>\n<p>Most of IIASA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iiasa.ac.at\/web\/home\/about\/nationalmembers\/National-Member-Organizations.en.html\">National Member Organizations<\/a>\u00a0(NMO) provide grants to enable young scientists (either their own nationals or foreign students studying in their country) to participate in the YSSP. All successfully selected applicants will receive notification about funding shortly after the evaluation process.<\/p>\n<p>Awards are given annually for outstanding work by participants in IIASA\u2019s Young Scientists Summer Program.
