Early Childhood Development (ECD) is one of UNICEF China’s key programme areas in the Country Programme 2016-2020, with two outcomes, one of which is cross-sectoral, and one in the Education and Child Development Section with three outputs, specifically:

OUTCOME 2.2: By 2020, boys and girls aged 0-6 years particularly the most disadvantaged, have improved access to affordable, quality early childhood development services

Output 2.1: National guidelines for ECD 0-3 and 3-6 years developed and tested to inform nationwide adoption and implementation by government.

Output 2.2: Models and strategies developed and piloted to promote quality ECD services for 3-6 years, with a focus on disadvantaged groups.

Output 2.3: Models and strategies of community-based integrated ECD 0-3 years for disadvantaged children, including children affected by HIV, piloted and assessed to inform scale-up at national level.

Outcome 5.2 (cross-sectoral): By 2020, children in China, particularly the most disadvantaged, benefit from multi-sectoral, integrated models to support early childhood development.

To support achieving the targets in the outputs, UNICEF support includes both upstream and downstream work. UNICEF works with the national counterparts to develop policies and standards to address the equity and quality issues, and to pilot models and strategies for improving the quality of early childhood services for the disadvantaged children, especially children in rural areas, children left behind, children from ethnic minorities, and children who migrated. Overall advocacy on ECD for the 0-6 year age group, aiming to raise awareness amongst the general public and to promote scientific child-rearing knowledge and skills among parents and caregivers.

How can you make a difference?Support the project documentation of ECE Quality Improvement Projects, including translating documents, editing and compiling documentation. Support ECD responses to COVID-19 and related tasks, including translating, editing and compiling documents, monitoring social media, and documenting best practices and lessons learned. Support the production of Child-Friendly Kindergarten video lessons, including translating and editing documents. Assist in compiling and editing programme materials and reports for end-cycle preparation of ECD programme.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have

Be enrolled in the last year of graduate with major in Education, and relevant Social Studies, preferably ECE, Communication, and Language;

Strong writing and research skills;

Familiar with knowledge management tools and methods, and good at searching and filing literature and documents;

Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English required;

Previous volunteer/intern experience desired but not necessary;

Knowledge of MS Office is required; experience in research activities and report writing is highly desirable;

Candidate must be a team player with communication skills, who works well with people and has a drive for results.
